Electrifying news on the internet

Freedom Digital Networks (FDN) has launched a breakthrough technology that delivers internet connectivity to a building via its electricity network.

It uses a building's existing electrical wiring to effectively 'flood' every room in the building with a digital network, transforming every electrical point into an internet-enabled data port. End users can then either connect via a normal LAN cable or via wireless.

Even light sockets can be used to create access points or to connect added value devices, for example, lights that also act as security cameras.

To retro supply internet access to a large site such as an hotel can be expensive and intrusive and many buildings are also unsuitable for wireless connectivity due to their construction or use. The FDN system avoids the need for invasive re-cabling and gives the flexibility to connect to the internet anywhere in the building.

It offers access to network resources - including the main server, printers, computer files and documents - from anywhere in the building; secure and controlled access to the internet; a VOIP telephone system to allow free internal and external calls as well as aiding communication; and the installation of cameras for higher levels of security.

Now available in the UK, the technology is already implemented and working in hundreds of installations across continental Europe.
